Shopping Trip to Walgreens and CVS 1/28/11

I had a great shopping trip to CVS.  Walgreen's wasn't too bad either...but diapers are always a big spending item.  All in all, Not too shabby!

I did get one wrong item so I do need to go and exchange it.  I will give you the totals I got and then let you know what I am exchanging and how much my return will be and then give you the grand total after the exchange.

The two AirWick items were on sale a couple of weeks ago for $6 (origianlly $13 something) and CVS was out of them so I got a raincheck (YES you can get a raincheck!!!).  I had 2 $4 off coupons so they were $2 each!!!  The Your Life vitamines were still on sale this week B1G1 Free ($9 something each).  I had 2 $2 off coupons so both of them came to a little over $5.  The three Reach flosses were on sale 99¢ each.  I had 3 $1 off coupons.  I purchased another floss but didn't realize till later that it was not the one on sale.  It was $2.39.  I need to exchange it.  I had $11 extra bucks so total spent out of pocket at CVS was a $3.86 including tax.  I will get back about $1.50 once I exchange the Reach floss.

I went over to Walgreen's after and got the Colgate toothpaste ($3.49 and had a 50¢ off coupon) which had a $2.50 RR after purchase, Huggies Diapers ($8.99 and had a $2 off coupon) which had a $2 RR after purchase.  The Crest mouthwash was $4.99 and I had a $2 off Walgreen's coupon and a $2 off manufacturers coupon.  I purchased 4 Keebler cookies as well, 2 for $5 and had a $2 off 2 Walgreen's coupon and $1 off 2 manufacturers coupon.  Total spent out of pocket was $16.32 including tax and I took home $4.50 in RR!

Oh yeah, and the Popcorn was FREE at Smith's!

Grand total spent :  $18.68
GRAND TOTAL SAVED:  around $65.00

CVS Coupon Policy

I called CVS Customer Relations today and the person was more than happy to help me with the policy set as of right now.  The coupon policy can change and she stated that they have the right to change any or all of it...but here is what she e-mail to me.  You can print this out if you like and take it with you to your local CVS when you are trying to use coupons.

Dear Ms. Sharon Cabangon:

Thank you for contacting CVS/pharmacy regarding our coupon policy.  We appreciate the time you have taken to contact us with your inquiry.

I sincerely apologize for the confusion.  Below I have listed a copy of our coupon policy for your convenience.  Please keep in mind; we do reserve the right to change this policy at any time.

Our registers are set to allow one CVS coupon and one manufacturer coupon per item.  Free coupons or “offers at the register” (OAR’s) are unearned and issued to you as a valued member of the CVS/pharmacy ExtraCare program.  These coupons take the form of “open ended” coupons such as $3 off $15 or a certain dollar amount off a specific item.  In any given transaction our registers will allow only one “open ended” coupon per transaction.  CVS Extra Buck coupons are earned when you make a qualifying purchase.  These print out instantly at the register upon reaching the threshold for the offer.  You can use more than one Extra Buck coupon provided the purchase threshold has been met for each offer amount on a per-transaction basis.

In the case where a particular item is on sale for “buy one get one free” (BOGO), you are only allowed to use one manufacturer’s BOGO coupon.  For instance, if Revlon lipstick is on sale for BOGO, you can use one manufacturer’s BOGO coupon.  You would get both items free and pay any applicable tax.  We reserve the right to limit quantities.  If our store is running a sale for BOGO, you can use two manufacturer’s coupons for a specific dollar amount off.  For example, if Revlon lipstick is on sale at our store for BOGO, you can use two $1.00 off Revlon lipstick manufacturer coupons.

CVS/pharmacy does accept manufacturers’ coupons that have been obtained from manufacturer sponsored and/or authorized Web sites.  The coupon should be complete and contain a bar code that can be scanned at the register.  If the coupon does not scan, the cashier should politely inform you that we cannot accept your coupon.  We do not allow manual overrides at the register for coupons printed from the Internet.  CVS/pharmacy will not accept offers printed from unauthorized Ineternet postings or reproductions, copies, or facsimiles.

We do not accept competitors’ coupons for front store items.  We feel that our sales and ExtraCare program are comparable if not better than any sales or coupons offered by our competitors.  We also do not accept any expired coupons, CVS or otherwise.  We do not "double" or "triple" coupons.

Thank you again for contacting us Ms. Cabangon.  We value your business and we look forward to serving you in the future.  Have a wonderful afternoon!

A little Overwhelmed

Overwhelmed -1. Bury or drown beneath a huge mass.  2. Defeat completely.

I must say that I started this blog knowing it was going to be hard.  I don't want to steer anyone wrong!  At this point...I have 3 followers and a little under 100 page views.  It isn't like I am famous or that EVERYONE in the world is looking to me...but I feel an obligation to the few of you that want to learn how to coupon.  I would like to see all of my friends and family learn how to save money...I am pretty sure that none of you have a money growing tree around.

I give you this..

  • I will do my best to teach you (as I fumble along as well) the "art" of couponing.
  • I will do my best to be timely on giving updates of weekly deals at Walgreen, CVS and Smith's...and occasionally other stores.
I am busy just like the rest of you.  I have family, church, school and a house to run.  I don't want this to get in the way of my obligations to God and my family.  Couponing should help all of us save money, but it shouldn't take our time away...there has to be balance and I am trying to find it.  It is easy to become so OBSESSED over this...LOL!  Just look at the TLC show Extreme Couponing...THAT says it ALL!!!
